About RateOn

RateOn builds small, focused, free tools for people who care about their keyboard: gamers checking input lag, typists tracking their words-per-minute, and anyone who just wants to know if a key on their board has stopped working.

RateOn is founded and built by Ahsan Fayyaz, a digital entrepreneur and SEO specialist — he designed and developed every tool on the site himself, including the keyboard tester, typing speed test, polling rate test, ghosting/NKRO test, and key chatter test. With a background in entrepreneurship, SEO, and web development rather than formal hardware engineering, Ahsan built RateOn to make these keyboard-testing tools free, accessible, and easy to understand. He personally writes, reviews, and tests every tool and every piece of content on the site before it ships. You can reach out any time via the contact page.

Why we built these tools

Most keyboard testers either require a download or send your keystrokes to a server just to tell you whether a key press registered. Every tool on RateOn runs entirely client-side in your browser — nothing you type or press is ever uploaded, logged, or stored anywhere. You can verify this yourself by opening your browser's Network tab while using any tool: you won't see a single outgoing request carrying your keystrokes.

We also try to be upfront about what each tool can and can't actually tell you, instead of dressing up a rough estimate as a precise spec. The polling rate test, for example, measures how frequently your OS delivers key-repeat events while you hold a key down — a genuinely useful real-world proxy, but not a raw USB/HID polling-rate readout, since no website's JavaScript has access to that. The ghosting test can only report what the browser actually receives, so it can't fully distinguish true hardware ghosting from an OS or driver silently dropping an event. We'd rather explain a limitation clearly than have you walk away with a number that sounds more authoritative than it is.

What we offer

  • A keyboard tester supporting six Latin-alphabet layouts (QWERTY, AZERTY, QWERTZ, Dvorak, Colemak, Workman) plus a growing set of world-language keyboards (Japanese JIS, Korean 2-Beolsik, Russian, Arabic, Turkish, with more on the way) — across five board sizes from 40% to full-size with numpad
  • A typing speed test measuring WPM and accuracy on real passages, not just isolated drills
  • A polling rate test for a practical read on your keyboard's responsiveness
  • A ghosting & NKRO test to see exactly which key combinations your board can register at once
  • A key chatter test to catch a key that registers one press as two

The site is also being translated into several other languages (Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, and more on the way) so more people can use these tools in the language they're most comfortable in — use the language switcher in the header to try one out.

How we make money

RateOn is currently ad-free and has no paid tier — every tool is free with no usage limits. If that changes in the future (for example, adding non-intrusive ads to cover hosting costs), this page will be updated to say so plainly.
